LUANGWA TOWN COUNCIL HANDS OVER CDF EMPOWERMENT GRANTS WORTH K2,793,344.75 TO BENEFICIARIES
Luangwa, Feira – 3rd July 2026
Luangwa Town Council handed over Constituency Development Fund (CDF) Empowerment Grants Worth K2,793,344.75 to 72 clubs, cooperatives, and community groups in Feira Constituency.
The handover ceremony was officiated by the Provincial Local Government Officer(PLGO) for Lusaka Province, Mr. Charlston Hamulyata, who was representing the Lusaka Province Permanent Secretary, Engineer Joe Kalusa.
Speaking during the ceremony, Mr. Hamulyata said the event was a strong demonstration of Government’s commitment to taking development closer to the people and empowering communities at the grassroots level.
He emphasized that the disbursement of K2,793,344.75 to 72 clubs and cooperatives was not merely a financial transaction, but a significant investment in the future of Luangwa District and the livelihoods of its people.
The District Commissioner Mr. Luke Chikani, said the grants represent an investment in the people, communities, and shared future of Luangwa District.
He noted that the resources are intended to support entrepreneurship, create employment, improve livelihoods, and promote sustainable economic growth. He further stated that some cooperatives and clubs have already demonstrated positive progress and expressed confidence that many more would become sustainable in the near future.
Meanwhile, Luangwa Town Council Secretary, Mr. Greyson Sakala, described the disbursement as a crucial milestone in the implementation of CDF, particularly in promoting small-scale business development.
Mr. Sakala expressed hope that beneficiaries would put the funds to good use, noting that Government places great emphasis on empowering cooperatives, clubs, youth groups, women, vulnerable persons, and persons living with disabilities. He encouraged beneficiaries to continue working together for community development.
In his remarks, His Royal Highness Chief Mphuka expressed gratitude to Government for increasing CDF allocations, stating that the funds would help address many challenges faced by communities, especially in agriculture.
Chief Mphuka highlighted that irregular rainfall and frequent human-wildlife conflict, particularly crop destruction by animals, continue to affect farming activities in the district. He said the empowerment grants would provide alternative opportunities to improve livelihoods.
He also urged beneficiaries to use the grants responsibly and avoid misusing the funds. The Chief pledged to closely monitor beneficiaries and ensure the resources are used for productive ventures that benefit both individuals and the wider community.
He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the success of the projects and improving the livelihoods of the people in both chiefdoms.
In the same vein Voter Education Facilitators had an opportunity to give a talk on voting procedure and the Electoral Systems in Zambia, they provided guidance on how to correctly cast a ballot and helped voters understand the electoral process to ensure informed participation during elections.
