Luangwa District was established in 1977, it is located 320 kilometers South – East of Lusaka City. It covers an approximate area of 3,886 square kilometers in the eastern part of Lusaka province with a population of approximately 35,933 by 2022.
The District boarders with Rufunsa in the North, Mozambique in the East, Zimbabwe in the South and Kafue District on the West.
Luangwa District is in the Zambezi escarpment, which stretches through the Lower Zambezi National Park, the home of abundant specious of wildlife. The District has multiple hills and its temperature ranging between 35°C to 43°C throughout the year. Feira was the earliest settlement of Europeans in the country in the 1930’s.
